Sunday the 12th of April 2020 – Esperance, Western Australia

Happy Easter everyone!

I’ve received a few comments and questions back as to how we are seeing all these sites whilst in lockdown, so I thought I’d explain. Unfortunately the rules across Australia are not the same, for instance, here in WA all the beaches are still open (just as well, Perth had its hottest April day on record yesterday at 39 degrees), social distancing rules still apply, as the beaches are patrolled by police (not one fine has been handed out). In the eastern states the beaches are closed, apparently in Victoria your allowed to travel to your holiday homes but elsewhere your not. There are many inconsistencies across the nation on what you can and can’t do!

Here in WA, the state has 9 regions and you are not allowed to travel into other regions without a permit. Our region is the largest in WA, about the size of Victoria. And within the region its been segregated in the shires, and the Esperance shire is closed. We are allowed to travel within this area and fortunately the great beaches you have seen in my photos are all within the shire and in fact all but a couple are within 10 k’s of our park. We have spent the majority of our time self isolating in the park, although the self isolating can be a bit overstated. There are no cases of C-19 in Esperance and only 3 cases in the region (remember its the size of Victoria) and that’s Kalgoorlie, 400 K’s from us. Everyone in the park has been here for at least 3 weeks, so we are basically C-19 free here.

So the bottom line is we are adhering to the WA Government’s rules and the local ones here in Esperance re travelling and social distancing. Whilst we have seen some local sites over the 3 weeks, we are still spending 90% of our time in the park. Like everyone we hope normality isn’t far away.

We woke this morning to 30 degrees, it was very warm. So we decided to go down to Twilight Beach (below) for a quick dip and so did the rest of the park it seems. Enjoy the rest of your Easter break!

Swimming at Twilight Beach. The water was crystal clear, although tending to be a bit chilly when you first got in. All the people in this shot are from our Caravan Park, it seems all had the same idea on how to spend their Easter Sunday morning!

Hi Lisa, no worries. Yes, we’ve had a couple today and probably will over the next few days as well. Enjoy the rest of the break. Cheers

The self isolation rules here are just ridiculous. People are getting fined for eating a pizza in their car. I mean, if the pizza shop is still open doesn’t that mean you can go & order a pizza? But apparently you aren’t allowed to drive there because it isn’t essential. Well don’t open the bloody pizza shop or the take away coffee shop or the dam nursery down the road if you can’t go there!

Bunnings is open for business; Harvey Norman is open for business! As you can tell I am getting a little edgy about the RULES. I sit in my driveway with a coffee whilst my neighbour sits in hers with her coffee & we yell to each other. Oh for sanity!

Louise as l said in the blog, there is no consistency across the nation, it’s a bit of a joke when beaches are closed in one place and not in another!
